I love the Driver character, I feel the film was to show the human side of him - who anyone could become, yet human. Two films have simliarties but I would not put the nightcrawler and the Driver as similar people. He was also a "hero" because he kill bad guys. The Driver probably didnt hate human, he isolated himself because he rather be alone or guilty or whatever is mystery. The Nightcrawler didnt have much human character and he hated human. Him being "guilty" of the things he does is a sign of being human. But who he is now or has become that made him seemed a little isolated from the society. Esp with the relationship he has with the girl and kid (watched it a while back so I forgot names), and the things he was willing to do, shows that he is has a good side. If you were in his shoes you probably would have done the same thing. I feel like the Driver is just like any other human being. But I dont believe nightcrawler is a "real human being" because he doesnt seem to have a human like side as the Driver did. Nightcrawler definitely has a similiar vibe. It's not much, I know, but this film makes me really curious to see what else is under it, and would love to have a discussion with you all about this. This really blends the concepts of good and bad and warps our perception of The Driver. However, it's obvious that he is brawling with inner demons and when 'they' come out it makes for incredible film, even if it is hyper-violent. The Driver on the outside looks like a sweet, kind man who is just doubling as a wheelman to make some money. If you don't understand what that is, please google it, it's hard to explain really. Throughout the film, the mood was a bit uncanny valley. I found this very interesting and it also plays into my next point (nice segue), contrast. It's not him that did it, it's what he projects himself onto, The Driver, that did it. The Driver never tells anyone his name so that he can't feel guilt for his actions. Now this is fairly obvious if you've seen the film, but this goes deeper. I re watched it recently and I have noticed some very interesting aspect to the film's narrative, and hopefully you can share some of your own that you have found.įirstly, the main character, is never called by name in the entire movie. I have always felt that Drive was an underrated film, but that's just my personal opinion.
